This year’s Valentine’s Day in Japan might be particularly challenging. Following last week’s heavy snowfall in the Kanto region, which caused major transportation disruptions and made many roads impassable, the capital region was hit by another snowstorm today (the 14th). In addition to delays on the Shinkansen and railways, over 50 domestic and international flights from Haneda and Narita airports have been canceled since the morning.

According to Japanese media reports, the Kanto region has seen renewed snowfall since the early hours of the 14th. By noon, the heavy snow had forced the Shinkansen to reduce speed, resulting in numerous delayed services. JR East Japan also announced at noon that some routes would be suspended after 1:30 PM, with trains operating within the capital region experiencing delays of around 10 to 15 minutes.

Air traffic has also been disrupted again due to strong winds and heavy snow. Narita and Haneda airports announced multiple flight cancellations in the morning, with almost all domestic flights at Haneda being grounded, disrupting many people’s travel plans or preventing them from returning home. Haneda Airport stated that in the morning, including flights operated by All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines, over 100 domestic flights had been canceled. According togoo Routes,approximately 40 or more flights at Narita Airport were also canceled or rescheduled. Travelers planning to visit Japan in the coming days are advised to confirm their flight status with airlines in advance.

Japanese media also pointed out that snowfall may gradually intensify in the afternoon, with the area of snow cover expanding. The snow conditions this weekend should not be underestimated, and the public is reminded to stay safe while outdoors.On the Taiwan side, flights from Taipei’s Songshan and Taoyuan airports to Tokyo are currently operating as scheduled. However, flights returning from Tokyo, including China Airlines and Japan Airlines flights from Haneda to Songshan Airport, have confirmed schedule changes. Flights between Taoyuan Airport and Tokyo, including those operated by Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, and Scoot, have also announced schedule adjustments or delayed departures.
