The Korean drama “My Love from the Star,” which captivated all of Asia with the charm of “Professor Do,” is set to conclude this week. Since its premiere, almost every location featured in the show has become a popular tourist attraction. In Episode 19, Do Min-joon teleports Cheon Song-yi to an island free of police, reporters, and any disturbances — this is the “Snake Island Marine Park,” an offshore park located south of Geoje Island in South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea.

During the show’s run, many may have found the setting familiar, as the popular Korean variety show “Running Man” also filmed a chase mission here during its Year of the Snake special in 2013. The island’s scenery was so stunning that upon arrival, the cast members were so captivated by the breathtaking views that they momentarily forgot to rip off each other’s name tags.

Snake Island is surrounded by sea and has a long, narrow shape, resembling a snake — hence its name. The island boasts beautiful scenery, and hikers who walk up the island’s trails to the observation deck at the highest point can enjoy panoramic views of the overlapping islands across the sea. The island is rich in natural landscapes, most notably the fiery redCamellia flowers. When spring arrives, the vibrant red camellias bloom across Snake Island, adding splashes of color to the lush green surroundings. Paired with the vast ocean views, the island attracts visitors from far and wide, making it one of Korea’s renowned wedding destinations.

But getting to Snake Island isn’t easy. Due to its remote location, the journey from Busan to the island takes about three hours one way. Fans of the drama are advised to set aside a full day for the trip. Well-known travel blogger “Traveling Korea Through K-Dramas” has even compiled recommended transportation options to the island.

From “Busan West Bus Terminal” to “Gukan Bus Terminal” (?????), the bus ride takes about an hour and a half. Then, take a local bus from Gukan Bus Terminal to “Gabe” (??), which takes about an hour. Once you arrive, you’ll see the Snake Island Gabe Tour Boat. The boat ride from Gabe to Snake Island takes approximately 25 minutes. However, please note that your time on the island is limited to 2.5 hours. For example, if you arrive at 10:55 AM, you and your fellow passengers must return to Gabe by 1:25 PM on the same boat — you cannot stay on the island for more than two and a half hours or take a later boat back.
