Purple Peonies in Full Bloom in Tainan – Four Scenic Hiking Trails on Meiling Are at Their Most Beautiful

The peonies in Tainan are now in full bloom—this is their most beautiful time of year. The hills around Meiling offer excellent visibility, making them perfect for casual hiking and nature walks. The four main hiking trails on Meiling form a looped route that can be leisurely completed in about half a day.

Meifeng Ancient Trailand the stretch from Er’cengping up to Wulong Temple are currently home to over 10,000 purple peonies in full bloom. Along the paths, vibrant purple flowers are blooming brilliantly, offering a stunning sight.

Wulong Trailis considered one of the more gentle and popular among the four main hiking trails, stretching approximately 2.4 kilometers along a farm road.

Guanyin Trailstarts behind the parking lot at Er’cengping and offers scenic views of the Chianan Plain and the Zengwen Reservoir along the way.

Meilong Trailis the southernmost major trail on Meiling. Its front section follows a farm road, while the latter part winds through a secondary forest of bamboo and Trema orientalis trees.

Xu Hongwen, Secretary-General of the Meiling Scenic Area Development Association, said that due to less rainfall this year, the purple peony blooming period has been delayed by about a month. The best time to view the flowers is from now until the end of March. The Tainan City Tourism Bureau recommends that visitors driving to the area also explore nearby attractions such as Yongxing Suspension Bridge, Xuan Kong Temple, Jiang Family Ancestral House, and Guidan Hot Springs—all great spots for a one-day trip. The Yongxing Suspension Bridge is the longest in Taiwan, measuring 497 meters including its approach, and features a purple structure lit up with LED lights at night, creating a romantic atmosphere that’s especially popular with couples.
