Experience rowing a boat in the open sea firsthand – Kaohsiung’s Fishermen Walking Tour now open for public registration

With 65 kilometers of coastline and 16 fishing harbors, Kaohsiung City is promoting its fishing village culture and tourism development. The Ocean Affairs Bureau will hold the “2014 Kaohsiung Fishermen Walking Tour” experience activities on March 23, 29, and April 4 in the districts of Zihguan, Linyuan, Qieding, and Yong’an respectively, to allow the public to experience the charm of fishing village culture. Each session has 50 spots available for registration.

Ocean Affairs Bureau Director Lai Jui-long stated that the “2014 Kaohsiung Fishermen Walking Tour” experience activities invite citizens to take part in the most authentic fishing village life. Through guided tours and hands-on experiences led by local fisheries experts, participants will gain an in-depth understanding of the diverse fishing cultures in Zihguan, Linyuan, Qieding, and Yong’an. The event will feature different styles of walking tour experiences tailored to the fishing types in each area, introducing citizens to the unique characteristics of the city’s fishing villages and offering great options for weekend leisure trips. The activity also aims to increase fishermen’s income and boost the economic prosperity of fishing villages. In the future, the bureau hopes to encourage local fishing associations and fisheries groups to continue promoting the event at affordable prices.

This experience activity will offer three different fishing culture events:“Oyster Shed – Hand-Picking Catch”,“Linyuan – Rowing a Boat in the Open Sea”,“Qieding & Yong’an – Dad’s Fishing Fun”. A total of six sessions over three days, each limited to 50 participants. The experience fee is only NT$200 per person, and registration is by appointment via phone.
