The Firefly Season at Dongshi Forest Farm Begins – Free Guided Tours to Learn More About Fireflies

Dongshi Forest Farm Recreation Area will hold the opening event of the "Glimmer of Light" Firefly Season on March 22. During the firefly season (April), there will be one guided tour at 7 PM and another at 8 PM on weekdays, with additional sessions on holidays. The meeting point is the plaza in front of the Visitor Service Center, and no registration is required.

According to Dongshi Forest Farm, the black-winged firefly (Luciola cerata) is active from late March to late May, typically peaking from mid-April to late April, though this can vary slightly each year—sometimes starting a week earlier or later. The Sauter’s winged firefly (Curtos sauteri) appears from late April to May but is not very abundant. The large black firefly (Luciola anceyi) also emerges from late April to May, though numbers are limited.

Regarding accommodation during the firefly season, rooms are currently fully booked on April 5 (Sat), 12 (Sat), 19 (Sat), 26 (Sat), May 3 (Sat), and 10 (Sat). Only group suites are available on April 4 (Fri), 11 (Fri), 13 (Sun), 20 (Sun), and 25 (Sun). For reservations, call 04-255872191 ext. 9.

Dongshi Forest Farm also reminds visitors to follow four principles when viewing fireflies: do not catch them, do not enter their habitat, do not use lights that disturb them, and do not make loud noises.
