Gazing into the distance — the God of Cold Single Man (Han Dan Ye)! Photography competition, photo “Crowd” wins gold

The photography competition for the “2014 Lantern Festival Folk Carnival – Galloping Horses Greet Spring & Fried Han Dan Ye Series of Events,” hosted by Taitung City Government, has announced its winners. This year, the city government offered twenty awards with incentive bonuses, selecting one gold, one silver, and one bronze award winner, five merit award recipients, and twelve honorable mention winners. The event attracted 89 photography enthusiasts from across Taiwan, with a total of 585 entries submitted. After five rounds of careful evaluation by three professional judges, 20 outstanding works were selected, among which the photo “Crowd” won this year’s gold medal.

After five rounds of judging, the panel of judges unanimously agreed that the standard of the submissions was high, which also increased the difficulty of the selection process. However, many of the entries focused mainly on images of the God of Cold Single Man (Han Dan Ye) and traditional performance troupes, overlooking the diversity of the overall event — a bit of a pity. The gold-winning photo “Crowd” stood out for being shot from a high angle, with the photographer expertly capturing the atmosphere of the scene. In addition to the God of Cold Single Man gazing thoughtfully into the distance, the surrounding audience also became the timeless, frozen protagonists of the moment the shutter clicked.
