Major Survey of International Travelers: Asians Fear Forgetting Their Phones the Most When Traveling

Forgetting to bring something when traveling abroad is a common occurrence. What’s the one thing you dread leaving behind? A leading international hotel booking website has released the latest global traveler survey, revealing that Asian travelers have a strong reliance on their phones and are most worried about being without them while traveling, whereas Western travelers fear forgetting their credit cards the most.

In February 2014, Agoda.com conducted an online survey of over 50,000 Agoda customers from around the world, asking them to choose the most indispensable item when traveling. The survey results showed significant differences between Eastern and Western perceptions of the importance of various travel essentials. As many as 45% of Asian travelers stated that their “phone” is the most essential item when traveling, while “credit card” came in second, chosen by 29% of Asian respondents.

Interestingly, the answers from Western travelers were markedly different. Compared to Asians, European and American travelers consider credit cards much more important than phones. 47% of European travelers and 44% of American travelers said they fear forgetting their credit cards the most when traveling, with only 19% of Western travelers choosing the phone.
