The "Tung Blossom Star" Painted Train Sets Off – Admire the "May Snow" Aboard

The most grand and lively annual celebration of the Hakka community – the "2014 Hakka Tung Blossom Season" has officially kicked off. In addition to viewing tung blossoms and experiencing Hakka culture, one of the highlights is the 2014 "Tung Blossom Star" painted Taiwan Railways train, jointly launched by the Council of Hakka Affairs and the Taiwan Railways Administration. It started running on the northern and southern main lines on March 31 and will continue until April 29. The official website of the "2014 Hakka Tung Blossom Season" has released the train schedule for the "Tung Blossom Star" painted train from April 8 to April 20, making it easy for those wishing to attend the Tung Blossom Festival to keep track of the train services. The tung blossom-painted train adopts the design concept of "Exploring Hakka Villages," with all eight carriages themed around tung blossoms. Each carriage features a vibrant color base paired with different floral patterns, all representing iconic traditional Hakka culture. Examples include designs of traditional Hakka sweets such as lei cha (pounded tea), dried persimmons, and ciba (glutinous rice cakes), as well as depictions of the traditional Hakka blue shirt and six styles of Hakka floral fabric. There are also illustrations from the Tung Blossom Song Creation and Dance Competition, showcasing the diverse facets of Hakka culture.

The "2014 Hakka Tung Blossom Season" centers around the theme of "Tung Blossoms in Hakka Villages, Celebrating Together." It is being held in collaboration with 13 counties and cities across various locations, featuring Tung Blossom cultural and artistic events. The festival has been ongoing for two weeks, and the grand opening ceremony will be held on April 12 at the Shangri-La Resort in Miaoli. Starting at 10:40 AM, the event will begin with a "Heaven Worship Ceremony," followed by the "Tung Blossom Parade" and exciting main-stage activities. Residents in the north can take the painted train to attend.
