The National Immigration Agency announced on the 9th that, in response to the large number of mainland Chinese tourists visiting Taiwan during the May Day holiday, the daily quota for individual mainland tourists will be increased from 3,000 to 4,000 starting from the 16th.

The agency stated that from January to the end of March this year, the number of individual mainland tourists entering Taiwan has exceeded 250,000, while the number of group tourists has surpassed 520,000. Among them, the number of group tourists in March reached 220,000, setting a new monthly high since the launch of group travel for mainland tourists.

After discussions between the National Immigration Agency and the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, it was decided to raise the quota for individual mainland tourists. The agency said it will increase the number of personnel handling applications, expanding from 12 service centers to 18, thereby processing more applications each working day—approximately 1,480 additional applications are expected to be handled, which is projected to increase the number of individual mainland tourists visiting Taiwan.
