Firefly Viewing Season Begins at Huison Forest Farm: Daytime Azalea Blooms and Nighttime Fireflies

The period between April and May each year is the best time for firefly viewing in Taiwan. This year, Huison Forest Farm has scheduled its “Huison Firefly Fun” event from April 14 to May 11. The viewing area is located around Liyuan Mountain Villa. In addition to nighttime firefly watching, visitors can also observe blue magpies and various bird species near the large grassland during the day, as well as admire beautiful scenery such as camellia and tung blossom blooms—enjoying a whole day of rich and romantic experiences.

Within the park area around Liyuan Mountain Villa, Huison Forest Farm has specially designed a firefly-viewing trail illuminated by low-brightness red LED lights. During holiday periods, the viewing sites can get crowded. For those seeking a more serene and high-quality experience, visiting on weekdays (Monday to Friday) when there are fewer visitors is recommended. As a token of appreciation, guests staying on non-holidays can enjoy a 40% discount on accommodation—an unmissable opportunity to seize!

To help the public better understand the ecology of fireflies, during the Huison Firefly Fun event (April 14–May 11), volunteer guides provide nightly commentary sessions starting at 6:30 PM. These sessions lead visitors into the enchanting world of dancing fireflies, allowing them to witness the ecological beauty of thousands of glowing fireflies. In addition to learning about the fascinating relationship between nature and fireflies, participants also gain an appreciation for the importance of ecological conservation and develop a deeper respect for the natural world. Throughout the event period, Huison Forest Farm also screens firefly ecology films at scheduled times, displays firefly images and charts, and offers on-site explanations at designated exhibition areas to provide visitors with an in-depth understanding.
