Green gets slammed as ugly — red railings return to Taiwan’s most beautiful little station “Duoliang Station”

Taiwan’s “most beautiful station” — Duoliang Station, with its breathtaking scenery nestled between mountains and sea, has long captivated railway enthusiasts. Recently, however, its “red railings were painted green,” drawing criticism from netizens who said it ruined the view.Today (17th), Taiwan Railways restored the green railings back to red. Xu Shengtong, head of the Taitung Maintenance Section of Taiwan Railways, stated that after coordinating with local government authorities, they still believe the red railings are more aesthetically pleasing, hence the decision to revert them.

Duoliang Station is located between Jinfeng and Longxi stations in Taimali Township. Although it is no longer in service, its stunning ocean view has earned it the title of “Taiwan’s most beautiful little station.” Originally, Taiwan Railways’ engineering department painted the railings green to match a newly installed fence nearby. However, this move prompted numerous complaints from the public, who felt the green railings detracted from the station’s original charm.

After public debate and multiple rounds of coordination with the township office and county government, Taiwan Railways decided to heed public opinion and repainted the railings red on the 17th, restoring the little station to its most beloved appearance in people’s hearts.
