The long-awaited Puyuma train began its first test run on the electrified section of the Hualien-Taitung railway line on the morning of the 18th. The TEMU2000 tilting EMU departed from Hualien Station in the morning, making stops at Shoufeng, Guangfu, Yuli, and Guanshan, arriving in Taitung at 12:35. At 15:08 in the afternoon, it departed from Taitung, passing through Chishang, Ruisui, Fenglin, and Ji’an before returning to Hualien.

Taiwan Railways Administration stated that the entire Hualien-Taitung railway line spans a total of 166 kilometers, and system integration and power supply for the section have now been completed. It is expected to open for service by the end of June.

After the electrification of the Hualien-Taitung railway line, trains will be able to reach speeds of up to 130 km/h. The travel time from Hualien to Taitung will be shortened from 123 minutes to 93 minutes, while the fastest travel time from Taipei to Taitung will be just three and a half hours—about 20% faster than before.
