Since its launch in mid-April, the “Dreamy Fun Mission” online campaign by the Hawaii Tourism Authority has received an enthusiastic response. In just two weeks, it has attracted hundreds of participants and garnered over 10,000 votes, while the Hawaii Tourism Authority’s Facebook fan page has surged to more than 8,000 followers. Contestants are going all out with creative strategies to compete for round-trip air tickets between Taipei and Hawaii, as well as a grand prize of NT$100,000.

Aside from uploading photos that fit the theme of the fun mission, some netizens have gotten creative by turning major Hawaiian attractions into a humorous poem or mobilizing friends, family, and colleagues to vote. This shows the irresistible charm of Hawaii, with participants pulling out all the stops to win over the judges. The Hawaii Tourism Authority stated that the registration period ends on 5/5 (Monday), reminding those who haven’t uploaded their photos yet to seize the final opportunity. Online voters also have a chance to win spring roll gift packs or kitchen textile sets with a Hawaiian flair.
To promote Hawaiian tourism among Taiwanese, the newly appointed Hawaii Tourism Authority team in 2014 has changed its approach by launching an online contest for everyday people, directly engaging with the public at zero distance. All one needs to do is upload a photo themed around “happiness” along with a 150-word reflection to join the contest. Beyond competing for online popularity, contestants must also pass the semi-final interview, deliver a creative final performance and create a travel plan at the Taipei Travel Fair to be eligible for the air ticket and cash grand prizes. This not only tests the creativity of the participating netizens but also aims to leverage social media influence to help more people discover the charm of Hawaii.

Xu Zheng-chang, the Taiwan representative of the Hawaii Tourism Authority, said: “In the internet era, the relationship between travel and the web is inseparable.” Through active public participation, not only is travel interactivity enhanced, but it also attracts more attention and stimulates imagination about Hawaii, making the trip even more enjoyable. The registration deadline is 5/5 (Monday).
The Hawaii Tourism Authority will also hold the finals of the “Dreamy Fun Mission” on May 25 at the Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1 during the “Taipei Travel Fair,” where the final three lucky winners of the grand prizes will be selected. The main Hawaii booth will also feature exciting performances including Hawaiian cultural accessories, hula dancing, and ukulele music, as well as fun quiz activities with prizes. It will also collaborate with travel agencies to offer special discount travel packages for the peak summer travel season.
