2014 Taiwan International Boat Show Opens — Mayor Chen Chu: Expected to Generate NT$5 Billion in Business

The “2014 Taiwan International Boat Show” officially opened today (the 8th), with 168 domestic and international exhibitors showcasing premium luxury yachts and related equipment and parts over four consecutive days at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center. Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu stated that the city’s yacht industry is one of its most competitive sectors, and this exhibition is expected to generate NT$5 billion in business opportunities, helping to establish Kaohsiung's reputation as the "Boat City" of Taiwan.

The inaugural Taiwan International Boat Show features 168 exhibitors, 861 booths, and 60 luxury yachts over a four-day period, making it the largest indoor boat show in Asia.On the opening day, the event attracted numerous domestic and international buyers and visitors. Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu noted that Taiwan has been developing its yacht industry for over 40 years and now ranks first in Asia in terms of capability. Currently, nearly 80% of Taiwan’s yacht industry is concentrated in Kaohsiung, with 90% of exports departing from the Port of Kaohsiung, making the city the cradle and driving force of Taiwan’s yacht industry.

Chen Chu pointed out that to enhance the marketing of the yacht industry and expand its market, the city government has worked closely with the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Bureau of Foreign Trade and the Taiwan Yacht Industry Association to successfully secure the venue for the Taiwan International Boat Show at the new exhibition landmark — the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center. Industry players have also invested NT$100 million in building a yacht marina, highlighting Kaohsiung’s image as a hub of the yacht kingdom. Additionally, integrated measures including transportation, accommodation, and dining benefits are being offered during the event, with an anticipated boost of NT$5 billion in surrounding business opportunities.

The yachts on display at this exhibition have a total value exceeding NT$7 billion. Exhibitors are focusing on showcasing yachts that embody fashion, creativity, technology, energy efficiency, and global appeal. The event also features yacht hardware, equipment and parts, ship design, marine instruments, interior decoration and repair services, marina planning, development and management, water sports equipment, and marine tourism and leisure activities, allowing the public to experience the refined craftsmanship of Taiwan’s yacht industry.
