Tainan Homestay "Breeze Valley" – As if Stepping into the World of Spirited Away

Hidden in the mountains of Nanhua District, Tainan, the homestay "Breeze Valley" is a three-story traditional Japanese wooden building. Its appearance resembles the bathhouse of Yubaba from Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away brought to life. Located away from the hustle and bustle of the city and by the lakeside, its refreshing and pleasant environment has gone viral among netizens, drawing many visitors who make special trips to see it.

The "Breeze Valley" homestay is located in Beiping Community, deep in the mountains of Nanhua Township. It feels like the village that Chihiro’s family stumbled upon—surrounded by rolling hills and accessible only via winding paths, as if “hidden” away. Originally one of the most underdeveloped villages in the area, under the leadership of Lü Gongfa, chairman of the Beiping Community Development Association, the entire community was transformed into the "Breeze Valley Art Village." Along the cycling path, street art created by resident artists and locals using clay, collage, and driftwood adorns the surroundings, giving the village an entirely new look.

Going further in, past mountain trails, you’ll be greeted by the homestay "Breeze Valley," which resembles an old-fashioned inn. The entire wooden structure was built using driftwood from the 88 Flood, along with cypress and camphor wood. Surrounded by fresh air and mountain views, it feels like a hidden paradise. Upon entering, you’re greeted by the rich scent of wood, and the six rooms inside are named after native Taiwanese timber such as Taiwan incense cedar, yew, and hinoki.

Lü Gongfa shared that he originally just wanted to build a house here for his retirement. By chance, he became the chairman of the community development association and decided to create a unique local tourist attraction. In addition to hoping to attract visitors looking to escape the city and enjoy nature, he also wanted to encourage young people who had left the area to return and join in the community revitalization efforts.

Nowadays, the "Breeze Valley" homestay charges for accommodation, but the rest of the area is free to visit. It also provides information and maps for nearby attractions such as the Nanhua Reservoir and Erliau.The goal is for visitors to momentarily forget their worries and fully enjoy the natural beauty of Nanhua’s mountain forests.
