Japanese hotel group recruits full-time staff in Taiwan with salaries starting at NT$60,000

As Taiwan is enveloped in an atmosphere of low wages and graduation season is approaching, soon-to-be graduates are beginning to worry about facing the dilemma of "graduation equals unemployment." At this time, the renowned Japanese hotel group "Hoshino Resorts" has set its sights on Taiwan’s talent and specifically crossed the sea to recruit employees in Taiwan. The group has also conducted information sessions at various universities and colleges, with the hotel’s general manager personally engaging in face-to-face discussions with students.

Hoshino Resorts has a long history and tradition in Japan, blending advanced Western management with Japanese-style service to create a high-quality corporate culture. Currently, the group operates over 30 hot spring hotels and resorts across Japan. The Hokkaido Hoshino TOMAMU Resort, Hoshino RISONARE Kohamajima, and Hoshino NIRAKANAI Iriomotejima, which are recruiting in Taiwan this time, are all part of its resort portfolio.

Located in central Hokkaido, the Hoshino TOMAMU Resort is a popular ski-themed destination in Hokkaido, attracting over 40,000 Taiwanese visitors annually, all of whom have given rave reviews. In winter, the Hoshino TOMAMU Resort serves as a ski resort, while in summer it is famed for its sea of clouds cable car and numerous activities. In 2012, it was selected as one of PAPER’s “Top 10 Theme Parks in the World.” The resort’s Water Chapel is a creation of Japanese architect Tadao Ando. Aside from being the filming location for Fish Leong’s “Admire” music video, this year artist Su Hui-Lun also celebrated a major life event here.

Additionally, Hoshino RISONARE Kohamajima and Hoshino NIRAKANAI Iriomotejima are located in the Yaeyama Islands region of Okinawa. Kohamajima boasts the largest coral reef group in the Northern Hemisphere, while Iriomotejima is home to well-preserved mangroves and the endemic Iriomote cat (closely related to Taiwan’s Formosan clouded leopard), making it a highly popular resort destination within Japan.

The resort recruitment brochure likens this management approach to the relationship among “soccer team members”: employees at all levels and nationalities within the organization stand on the same level and move toward the same goal together. Compared to Taiwan’s traditional vertical management culture, this not only encourages employees to take more pride in their work but also fosters the ability to independently solve problems. With increased communication needs, higher proficiency in conversational Japanese is also required.

Rolisa Tour, the Taiwan general agent for Hoshino TOMAMU Resort, Hoshino RISONARE Kohamajima, and Hoshino NIRAKANAI Iriomotejima, CEO Tang Gui-zhen stated: “Hokkaido has become a top travel destination for Taiwanese in recent years, especially the Hoshino TOMAMU Resort, which is widely known. The demand for Chinese-speaking service staff has significantly increased. Meanwhile, the Yaeyama Islands, the emerging destination closest to Taiwan, is also recruiting Chinese-speaking staff in Taiwan for the second time to attract Taiwanese travelers. Taiwan already has high-quality Japanese language and tourism professionals. This time, Hoshino Resorts is offering a starting monthly salary of 200,000 Japanese yen for full-time positions, along with the experience of working in a multinational corporation. It is definitely worth considering.”

In recent years, the number of Taiwanese traveling to Japan has increased year by year, and the demand for Chinese-speaking service personnel has also been on the rise. Coupled with the continued stagnation of domestic salary levels, Taiwan’s Japanese language and tourism professionals are eager to seize this recruitment opportunity, bringing the competitiveness of Taiwanese youth to the international stage.
