Taichung BRT shuttle bus “Blue Line 2” free for 7 days starting July 26

To coincide with the upcoming launch of the BRT system, Taichung City has introduced the BRT Circular Green Energy Shuttle Bus “Blue Line 2,” which will operate in left and right loops departing from Taichung Railway Station and connecting major attractions in Central, West, and North Districts. Starting July 26, the public can enjoy a seven-day free trial ride.

“Blue Line 2” features green energy streetcars, utilizing low-carbon hybrid or electric buses. The route runs in both left and right loops, passing by key attractions such as the Taiwan Provincial Government Building, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Calligraphy Greenway, and National Museum of Natural Science. It also stops at schools including Taichung First Senior High School, National Taichung University of Education, and National Taiwan University of Sport.

Taichung Mayor Jason Hu noted that traffic flow on Taiwan Boulevard increased from 3,500 vehicles per hour in 2013 to 5,300 vehicles per hour in May this year, with the number expected to keep growing. Therefore, the introduction of the BRT and a series of shuttle buses aims to encourage the public to use public transport more frequently.

From July 26 to July 2, the public can ride “Blue Line 2” for free. The full loop covers approximately 11.2 kilometers. On regular days, a bus runs every hour, while on weekends and holidays, one departs every 30 minutes. BRT transfer stations are located at both Taichung Railway Station and the National Museum of Natural Science. Starting July 3, passengers using any of the following cards—EasyCard, Taiwan Pass, iPASS, or Easycard—to tap in will enjoy free rides for distances within eight kilometers. Additionally, breakfast will be given away on the first bus of the day between July 3 and 9.
