Made from 7,000 recycled bottles: Taiwan’s only “eco-friendly Christmas tree” at 17 meters tall stands in Keelung

This Christmas in Keelung is going to be different from usual. The Keelung City Government has collaborated with the Keelung Christian United Care Association to create Taiwan’s only “eco-friendly Christmas tree,” standing at 17 meters tall and made from 7,000 recycled plastic bottles. It is expected to be illuminated starting on the 9th at Marine Plaza.

In order to create a maritime theme and connect with environmental awareness this Christmas, the Keelung City Government used 7,000 recycled plastic bottles to make this year’s Christmas tree representing the city. The tree stands 17 meters tall and is decorated with LED lights, making it currently the only and also the largest eco-friendly Christmas tree in Taiwan.

The eco-friendly Christmas tree is expected to officially light up from 7 PM on the 9th and will remain lit until January 2, 2018. Traditional art lanterns and 3D stereoscopic images will also be displayed on-site. From the 9th to the 23rd, there will be a series of exciting performances, featuring indigenous dance, Hakka cultural art performances, Rock Night, magic shows, and puppet shows by the Hope Book Theater.
