Dive into a cool mountain forest retreat！ Pingtung’s Shuangliu Waterfall reopens on July 1

If you’d rather not soak up the sun at the beach this summer, head into the mountains to enjoy the forest’s fresh air instead！ The Shuangliu National Forest Recreation Area in Pingtung boasts a rich diversity of flora and fauna, offering visitors a healing experience amidst lush greenery. The coolest spot in the park—Shuangliu Waterfall—will also reopen on July 1.

The Shuangliu National Forest Recreation Area spans Danlu Village and Caopu Village in Shizi Township, featuring the unique tropical monsoon forest of southern Taiwan, including trees such as glossycalyx lacquer tree, Chinese pistache, acacia, Taiwan beech, camphor tree, and mahogany. Visitors can go birdwatching and explore insects here. Shuangliu Waterfall is the most popular attraction in the park, not only offering stunning views of rushing water but also nurturing a rich stream ecosystem.

Last year, due to typhoon damage, the authorities temporarily closed the waterfall area for bridge and trail repairs. After more than half a year of restoration, it is finally set to reopen to visitors this summer. Recent days of heavy rain have also brought abundant water flow to the waterfall, allowing visitors to enjoy a cool summer amidst the gurgling streams.
