Hydrangeas in Full Bloom: A Romantic Summer Date in Miaoli’s Hidden Purple Stream Wonderland

A single photo of hydrangeas made Taiwan famous overseas. Since being posted on Instagram’s official account, it has garnered over 1.5 million “likes.” Hydrangeas have become this summer’s hottest check-in hashtag. In addition to Yangmingshan’s well-known Gao Family Hydrangea Fields, another hidden hydrangea paradise in Taiwan is tucked away in the mountains of Miaoli.

Also known as Chinese hydrangea, hydrangeas come in white, blue-purple, pink, and other petal colors. Blooming from May to July, they are most vibrant in summer. The purple-blue varieties are especially beloved—whether under sunlight or rain, purple petals radiate romance. At Miaoli’s Highland Qing Trout Farm, purple flower balls cluster densely in early summer, creating a dreamy setting where you can take stunning photos no matter where you stand.

Beyond the hydrangea-lined paths, venturing deeper into the mountains reveals a hidden hydrangea wonderland. Surrounded by greenery and guided by the sound of babbling water, you’ll find a small stream flanked by purple hydrangeas. Sunlight filters through, making the scenery dreamlike. Sitting on rocks while listening to birdsong, insect chirps, and flowing water creates the most romantic summer flower-viewing escape.
