Yilan’s Rokkaku Horse Park is brimming with fairy-tale charm — rocking horses and seesaws to open in July

Located right behind the Sanxing Scallion Culture Museum,Sanxing Parkwas once the site of the Sanxing Railway Station. After redevelopment, the township office reintroduced an authentic rocking Rokkaku Horse as a delightful surprise for children, andthe 8.3-meter-tall and 6.4-meter-tall yellow Rokkaku Horse has become a new landmark of Sanxing Township, with the area renamed Rokkaku Horse Park.

To create a whimsical, fairy-tale atmosphere,the township office has now introduced more themed play equipment, including Rokkaku Horse-shaped benches, rocking horses, and seesaws.Other features such as colorful murals and lawn improvements are scheduled for completion by the end of July to maintain the tourism momentum.

The bright yellow, wooden rocking Rokkaku Horse weighs 4.5 tons. It made a sensational debut in January 2014 when it paraded into a flower field. A mini version also promoted local agricultural products at Yilan County Government and Taipei’s Hope Square, and was even displayed at Keelung Harbor alongside the sea and cruise ships, forming a romantic scene. Returned to Sanxing Park, its childlike charm and healing appeal attracted many domestic and international visitors, making it the township’s most iconic goodwill ambassador.

During the summer two years ago, the original Rokkaku Horse was destroyed by Typhoon Dujuan, leaving many visitors disappointed. In response to strong public demand, the township office redeveloped Sanxing Park into a Rokkaku Horse fairy-tale park, building an identical, full-scale wooden horse.

Magistrate Huang Xiyong said that the Rokkaku Horse’s parade into the flower fields is not only a major local event in Sanxing but has also gained national fame, even appearing in international media. As the township’s mascot and highly popular tourism ambassador, it has driven waves of pilgrimages. To sustain its legacy, the township has not only rebuilt the horse but also created Rokkaku Horse Park — the Rokkaku Horse has become the soul of Sanxing's sustainable tourism development.

The township's Construction Division stated that work has included resurfacing 400 square meters of ground, installing 8 Rokkaku Horse-shaped benches, 4 rocking horses, and 3 seesaws, with total funding of NT$2.6 million. By the end of July, plans include completing 187 square meters of mural painting on the adjacent Senior Citizens’ Cultural and Recreational Center, enhancing lighting, and redesigning park signage and lawn areas.
