Kaohsiung Children's Art Education Festival – Performances by 6 International Troupes & Themed Street Parades

The Kaohsiung Children's Art Education Festival kicks off from July 19 to 27. To welcome the participating domestic and international performance groups, the Kaohsiung City Government held an Exchange Night today (22nd) at the Shiyue Bridge Sugar Cultural and Creative Park. Mayor Chen Chu stated that in recent years, the street parades of the Children's Art Festival have been rich and creative. She hopes that through the festival, children can develop their artistic learning abilities, engage in artistic exchanges with countries around the world, and cultivate aesthetic sensibilities and a global perspective.

This year marks the fifth edition of the Children's Art Education Festival, themed “Art Moves Forward, Discovering Kaohsiung,” highlighting local cultural elements through an art-themed street parade. The parade will feature representations of local icons such as Lotus Pond’s Banping Mountain, the Yellow Rubber Duck, Lujhu Tomatoes, Meinong Water Buffalo, the Happy San Taizi, Bunun Samba Drums, and the Songjiang Battle Array, showcasing the unique characteristics of Kaohsiung. Each year, through different thematic designs, the festival offers children opportunities to appreciate and engage with art, interact with young artists from around the world, and enhance their creative abilities.

The 2014 Children's Art Festival, spanning nine days from July 19 to 27, will host 10 high-quality international children's theater troupes from six countries—Argentina, Greece, Turkey, Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea. They will present a total of 32 exciting “black box theater” performances at Aozihdi Station and Dadong Elementary School. Additionally, Dadong Elementary School will host events such as the “Children's Art Education Forum” and “Residency Workshops.”
