September sees arrival of new 777s in Taiwan & China Airlines unveils brand-new full-flight simulator

China Airlines’ newly acquired 10 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft will be delivered progressively starting this September. To support the pilot training program for the new fleet, the airline’s state-of-the-art 777 full-flight simulator was officially launched today (29th), providing professional training for the 777 fleet.

This brand-new 777 full-flight simulator, manufactured by the UK-based L-3 Link Simulation & Training UK Ltd, was introduced through a collaboration between China Airlines and Taiwanese agent U&U Junli Co. It was officially launched today under the supervision of China Airlines General Manager Lin Peng-liang and will soon be put into service for pilot training and evaluation.

The 777 full-flight simulator adopts the latest R-7 sleek design and modular architecture, which is adaptable to various aircraft models—only the model module needs to be swapped out. This ensures greater flexibility and broader application in future training. The visual system, built by the U.S.-based RSI Company, boasts an ultra-high resolution of 2560 x 1600, making it the highest-resolution visual system in Taiwan. Utilizing LED projection technology, it can project the cockpit view outward to a horizontal range of 200 degrees and a vertical range of 45 degrees, allowing pilots to conduct comprehensive takeoff, landing, go-around, and emergency response training in an advanced virtual environment. Additionally, through key technologies such as digital electronic control systems and an electronic motion system, the simulator enhances operational reliability while reducing power consumption, supporting environmental sustainability.

In preparation for the arrival of the new 777 fleet, China Airlines has selected highly qualified foreign pilots with 777 flying experience. At the same time, seasoned certified pilots who have undergone specialized manufacturer training abroad have been carefully chosen to join the 777 fleet for both flying and instruction. In the future, the airline will continue to expand 777 pilot training, offering rigorous instruction, simulator sessions, and comprehensive route operation training. Beyond training, the 777 full-flight simulator also serves as a key tool for regular pilot evaluations. Through repeated simulation exercises, pilots can quickly master responses to various flight conditions and emergencies.

China Airlines Flight Training Center currently houses simulators for the Airbus A330, A340, Boeing 747, 737, and 777, providing training and evaluation for both its own fleet and pilots from other airlines. Moving forward, the center will continue enhancing its simulator training capabilities and maintaining the highest quality in line with fleet expansion plans, ensuring flight safety.
