The “2014 Summer Kaohsiung” concert will kick off on August 9

A wave of rock music is about to sweep through Kaohsiung. The “2014 Summer Kaohsiung” concert, organized by the Kaohsiung City Government’s Information Bureau, will take place on August 9 on Era Boulevard in Qianzheng District. Featuring well-known bands such as Fire EX., MP Magic Power, 831, and Universe People, as well as artists like Yen-j, Bii (Bi Shu-jin), and Yang Cheng-jun, the event will showcase the youthful energy of Kaohsiung’s new generation through punk, electronic, and lyrical rock styles.

Ding Yun-gong, Director of the Kaohsiung City Government Information Bureau, stated that in recent years, Kaohsiung has been actively enhancing its cultural and creative energy. By hosting music events, the city is shaping itself into a music hub. The “Summer Kaohsiung” concert on August 9 not only invites popular rock bands among young people—such as Fire EX., 831, Universe People, and MP Magic Power—but also features local Kaohsiung bands, highlighting the trends of the city’s new generation and encouraging young music creators to pursue and realize their dreams.

The “2014 Summer Kaohsiung” concert combines various local rock music styles including punk, electronic, and lyrical music, showcasing the authentic passion and vitality of the ocean city of Kaohsiung. The lineup is strong, featuring the locally based punk band Fire EX., known for their uniquely infectious style and for singing out the Taiwanese spirit with a steadfast commitment to rock music ideals; MP Magic Power, who rose to fame with electro-rock and sparked the nationwide Shooter Dance craze; as well as Yen-j, a talented singer from Kaohsiung, who interprets an alternative lyrical rock style. Also performing are the highly popular rock band 831, the student-favorite band Universe People, and the half-Korean, half-Chinese heartthrob Bii (Bi Shu-jin). They are set to ignite the summer nights of the harbor city with their energy. In addition, to highlight local original music elements, special time slots have been reserved for performances by local Kaohsiung bands, giving audiences a taste of the city’s diverse rock styles.

The “2014 Summer Kaohsiung” concert is completely free to attend. Kaohsiung residents and visitors from all over Taiwan are welcome to experience the summer rock music feast on August 9. To provide a more comfortable rock environment for citizens and music fans, traffic control will be implemented on Era Boulevard (from Chenggong 2nd Road to Zhonghua 5th Road) from 12:00 noon on August 5 to 6:00 a.m. on August 11. Additionally, to facilitate public participation, the city government has coordinated with transportation services to increase the frequency of metro and bus services during the event period. The public is encouraged to use public transport to get to the venue. Taxi waiting zones will also be provided around the venue as part of the transportation services—feel free to make use of them.
