New Taipei City expands free cross-border WiFi roaming to Hiroshima    Three locations now available

New Taipei City’s “cross-border free WiFi roaming” service has expanded to Hiroshima, Japan, following previous partnerships with Fukuoka and Okinawa. Located in western Japan, Hiroshima is a flat city and the largest in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions. Currently, there are around 10 WiFi access points (APs) available in Hiroshima, slightly fewer than in Fukuoka and Okinawa.

In August of last year (2013), New Taipei City government launched the “cross-border free WiFi roaming” partnership with Fukuoka, and this year (2014) expanded the collaboration to include Okinawa. Fukuoka offers 51 facilities with over 200 WiFi hotspots, while Okinawa has more than 50 hotspots.

As for the newly added partner Hiroshima, there are approximately 10 WiFi hotspots, mainly located at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, Hiroshima City Cultural Exchange Hall, Hiroshima International Conference Center, Hiroshima City Manga Library, Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, ASTER PLAZA, the former Hiroshima Branch of the Bank of Japan, the Tourist Information Center (underground plaza at JR Hiroshima Station South Exit), and Kamiyachō Shareo. Unfortunately, the most famous attraction in Hiroshima—and one of Japan’s Three Views—Itsukushima Shrine does not have a hotspot.
