The Blue Ribbon Waterfront of Liuchuan River in Taichung: A Scenic Light Art Display Featuring a Dreamy Christmas Tree and a Sea of Tulips

The light art display along the Blue Ribbon Waterfront of Liuchuan River has begun again. Last year, the romantic lighting installations along the riverside promenade instantly became one of Taichung’s hottest attractions. This time, a Christmas tree, a sea of tulips, a heart-shaped light tree, and Christmas gift boxes have been brought in. Whether you're here for Christmas or the 2018 Taichung New Year's Eve celebration, this spot guarantees a romantic experience. After exploring the Blue Ribbon Waterfront, you can head to Zhonghua Night Market or Yizhong Street for delicious food and shopping.

When Liuchuan River was first revitalized, its charm was completely restored, rivaling Seoul’s Cheonggyecheon Stream. The new look of Taichung’s Liuchuan River waterfront—Taichung’s version of Cheonggyecheon—has even more creative ideas this year, with grander events.

At the intersection of Taiwan Boulevard and Section 2, Liuchuan East Road, a Christmas market will be held (from December 9 to 25). Nearby, there is a parking lot and a discounted bus stop (BRT). It’s convenient to get here by bus or car, but taking the bus is recommended to avoid parking hassles.

As evening falls, the lights along the waterfront are turned on, making the entire area incredibly beautiful!! Currently in the testing phase, the official launch will be even more stunning.

The light display along Taiwan Boulevard

In addition to the installations in the water, there is also a section featuring a sea of tulips, echoing the 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition.

The scenery viewed from both sides of the waterfront is completely different, and just the tulips alone score off the charts in romance. The Google Maps landmark is "Liuchuan New Style."

The trees are adorned with colorful LED lights. At first, it’s unclear what they are, but when you look across the river, you’ll see they form heart shapes—you can choose from hearts in various colors.

Next up is the section along Zhongshan Road and Minzu Road, where the star of the show is the Christmas tree.

There are no extra decorative lights on either side to steal the spotlight, giving the Christmas tree its own solo moment.

Once the lights are officially turned on, the star at the top of the Christmas tree will also shine.

This area is expected to become one of the top spots for photos.

Don’t forget to capture the reflection in the water.

Come here for Christmas or the 2018 New Year’s celebration to experience a unique atmosphere.

Finally, there’s the section along Minzu Road and Minquan Road.

This area doesn’t feature eye-catching underwater light displays, but the nearby light sea area continuously changes colors.

Just this section alone is great for photos, and the two electrical rooms on either side are transformed into giant gift boxes—the two bows can make for stunning IG photos.

The area is still under preparation, and the lights may not be on yet. It’s recommended to visit after December 9, 2017, when it will be even more romantic and beautiful.
