A golden carpet spread across the plains: Ten thousand sunflowers in Sanyi, Yilan are now in bloom and free to pick

Located within the event area of the Sanyi Organic Rice Fragrance Festival in Yilan, a vast field of sunflowers is currently in full bloom. The Sanyi Township Office announced that starting now, the public can freely pick the flowers, as well as enjoy flower viewing and photography, adding to the summer beauty of Sanyi Township.

The Organic Rice Fragrance Festival held earlier this month by the Sanyi Township Office was designed with environmental protection and childlike fun in mind, featuring a welcoming corridor adorned with colorful small umbrellas and an entrance arch made of straw bundles. With the event concluded, the township office decided to maximize its environmental value by giving away the event materials to the public for free.

Currently, the sunflower sea covering an area of about 5 fen (approximately 0.5 hectares) around the umbrella corridor in the Rice Fragrance Festival area has reached its most beautiful stage. Not only can visitors take photos here, but the Sanyi Township Office has also opened up the flowers for the public to freely pick—just bring your own scissors. Meanwhile, the approximately 3,000 straw bundles used to create the welcome arch are also available for the public to collect and use for farming purposes.

The township office plans to hold a Valentine’s Day event next August at the Annongxi Flood Diversion Weir. The colorful small umbrellas originally from the pear-shaped umbrella corridor will be used as decorations for a romantic Qixi Festival lovers’ bridge. After the event, these umbrellas will be evenly distributed among four local production and marketing groups, and the public may see the painted umbrellas adorning the Sanyi pear orchards next year.
