(Delicious Oyster Braised Pork Rice)
A friend told me that Oyster Home serves bowls loaded with plump oysters, so I headed straight there without hesitation. I love restaurants that stay open in the afternoon. First, it helps avoid the lunch rush, and second, I have evening classes and little time to eat. Plus, having an early dinner makes it easier to manage my weight.

Today’s Meal:
------------------
Oyster Soup (NT$70)
Blanched Fresh Shrimp (NT$150)
Blanched Greens (NT$30)
Double-Egg Oyster Omelet (NT$100)
Oyster Mushroom Meat Sauce Rice (NT$100)
------------------
This Taiwanese snack isn’t exactly cheap, but the oysters are incredibly fresh, large, and juicy. A plate of oyster omelet for NT$100 might be the most expensive I’ve had in years, but also the most satisfying. Most places either use too much batter or serve skimpy, skinny oysters.

Most other dishes are fairly ordinary, so I’ll skip them for now and get to the main reason for this visit: the “Oyster Meat Sauce Rice.” A bowl of rice topped with oysters, drizzled with a bit of braising sauce and meat sauce—sounds simple, but it was surprisingly delicious. As a fusion-style braised pork rice, the combination of oysters and meat sauce worked really well, which was a pleasant surprise. It balanced the briny freshness of the oysters with the savory richness of the meat sauce perfectly. Topped with peeled cooked shrimp, one by one, the cholesterol level skyrockets—but so does the happiness.
