Sculpting Movie Scenes with Sand: Kaohsiung’s “Sand Art Voyage” Weekend Exhibition

Attention sand lovers this winter！The Kaohsiung City Government Tourism Bureau continues the spirit of the sand sculpture event from the Qijin “Black Sand Rock Festival,” and will co-host the “Sand Art Voyage: Halloween Magic Tunes” event with Dream Mall on October 25–26, using 120 tons of sand to depict scenes from movies and animations.

The sand sculpture art creations are themed around classic Halloween movies and the One Piece anime. The goal is to immerse visitors in the world of cinema through realistic movie scenes. The massive sand sculptures crafted by master sand artists bring a strong Halloween atmosphere, guiding the public into the fantastical adventure world of “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” experiencing the thrill of “Pirates of the Caribbean,” and witnessing the bloody legend of the vampire Count Dracula.

This year’s sand sculptures used approximately 120 tons of sand, transported by ten truckloads, and took ten working days to complete. The largest piece, titled “Sand Art Voyage,” stands nearly 5 meters tall and spans over 9 meters at its widest point. Each sculpture was meticulously carved by skilled sand artists. In addition to more dynamic visual themes this year, another highlight is the golden-yellow color of the sand—different from Qijin’s black sand—showcasing a unique charm and style of sand art.
