Yoshizaki Takao, who came to Taiwan at the end of 2007 to learn Chinese and pursue a PhD, founded Mr. Ramen in Taipei at the end of 2011 after his juniors and seniors at National Taiwan University complained that Japanese ramen sold in Taiwan was too expensive.
Yoshizaki Takao explained: “At that time, the pricing of Japanese-style ramen in Taiwan was very polarized. Japanese ramen chain brands were too expensive, while the cheaper ones leaned toward Taiwanese-style ramen and weren’t authentic enough. So I wanted to create an option where everyone could enjoy affordable Japanese ramen without spending too much.”
