Tokyo Narita Airport to Build Dedicated Terminal 3 for Low-Cost Carriers, Opening April 8, 2015

On October 30, Tokyo Narita Airport announced plans to establish a new "Terminal 3" dedicated to low-cost carriers in response to the growing demand for budget flights, with an expected opening on April 8, 2015.

According to Narita Airport data, the new Terminal 3 will be located approximately 500 meters north of the existing Terminal 2, comprising both domestic and international sections connected by a 15-meter-high sky bridge. The terminal will be designed around three core concepts—"Casual," "Functional," and "Exciting"—to create a relaxed, efficient, and enjoyable airport environment. Spanning four floors with a total floor area of about 66,000 square meters, it is estimated to handle 7.5 million passengers annually.

Terminal 3 will include facilities such as duty-free shops, bookstores, and a 24-hour convenience store. The second-floor food court will offer a variety of options including sushi, soba noodles, and burgers, with 400 seats in total, making it the largest airport food court in Japan.

Currently, low-cost carriers operate 279 domestic and 31 international flights per week at Narita Airport, including routes to Taipei and Kaohsiung (inaugural flight on February 1, 2015). Domestic low-cost airlines include Jetstar Japan, Peach Aviation, Vanilla Air, and Spring Airlines, while international ones comprise Scoot, Eastar Jet, Asia Atlantic Airlines, and Jeju Air, totaling nine carriers.
