Hong Kong’s steamed milk desserts are extremely famous. Following the previous article on Yee Shun Milk Company from our Japan trip, this time we’re introducing another well-known steamed milk spot – the Australian Dairy Company. The steamed milk here is quite different from Yee Shun’s, but it’s just as delicious and not one bit inferior. As for which one is better, you’ll really have to try them both to decide for yourself.

The Australian Dairy Company is located on Parkes Street in Jordan, Hong Kong. It’s easy to find – just take the MTR to Jordan Station and walk two blocks. It’s also just one block away from Yee Shun, so if you’re feeling ambitious, you might even try conquering both famous steamed milk shops in one go. That could be a fun challenge.

The Australian Dairy Company was much more crowded than Yee Shun, so I didn’t manage to take any photos inside. Being not as adventurous (or hungry) this time, I came to try it the day after visiting Yee Shun. Since I’d already had dinner, I wasn’t able to eat much more, so I ended up just ordering their steamed milk to try.

Steamed Milk with Egg White (HKD 23): At the Australian Dairy Company, the steamed milk with egg white doesn’t have any additional ingredients, allowing you to enjoy its most pure flavor. The pure white, crystal-clear steamed milk looks incredibly appetizing just by sight.

The texture of the steamed milk is extremely soft and tender, almost like semi-solid tofu pudding. When you take a bite, the rich aroma of fresh milk spreads in your mouth – the taste is truly delightful. I’d say it’s quite good. Compared to Yee Shun’s steamed milk, which is richer and thicker, the Australian Dairy Company’s version is smoother and more delicate. Which one tastes better really depends on your personal preference for steamed milk texture. For me, both are delicious.

Another unique feature of Hong Kong is the ice cream trucks that roam the streets. These simple trucks sell a type of ice cream commonly seen in Taiwan. They don’t stay in fixed locations, and during my few days in Hong Kong, I ran into them twice. Each time, seeing the crowds rushing to buy ice cream made me want to join in.

Ice Cream (HKD 9): The ice cream itself isn’t very big – more like a small snack. The milk flavor is rich, and while it’s not mind-blowingly delicious, seeing these ice cream trucks around Hong Kong just makes you want to try one. It’s all part of the fun atmosphere.

This time, due to not being as hungry, I only had the steamed milk with egg white at the Australian Dairy Company. But I did enjoy the quality of this dessert. Although I still prefer Yee Shun a little more, I’d definitely want to revisit both famous dessert spots on my next trip to Hong Kong. Visitors to Hong Kong should also give this unique treat a try – something you can’t easily find in Taiwan.
