The only provincial capital through which the Yellow River flows  See “Mother” first, then eat beef noodles in Lanzhou

To promote the tourism highlights of Lanzhou, Jin Xiaoping, Deputy Director of the Lanzhou Tourism Bureau on the mainland, led a delegation to Taiwan to participate in the 2014 Taipei International Travel Fair, and held a tourism promotion event today (November 4). Organizations such as the Quality Assurance Association, local travel associations, and industry operators were all invited to attend. Jin Xiaoping stated at the event that in addition to its natural scenery and historical sites, the biggest features of Lanzhou are its “coolness” and “snow.”

Lanzhou is the capital of Gansu Province and an important stop along the Silk Road, boasting a development history of over 2,200 years. Historical figures such as Zhang Qian, Ban Chao, Princess Wencheng, and Marco Polo have all left their footprints here.

Jin Xiaoping pointed out that cities in the plains of Taiwan are hot in summer and lack snow in winter, but Lanzhou, located in Gansu Province, has an elevation of 1,500 meters, making summers cool and comfortable with an average temperature of around 20 degrees Celsius. Since ancient times, it has been known as the “Summer Palace of the West,” making it ideal for heat-sensitive Taiwanese visitors to escape the heat and enjoy vacation time from June to August each year. In mid-October each year, Lanzhou also enters its snowy season, where visitors can not only admire the snow but also enjoy snow play at two ski resorts within the city.

As the only provincial capital city through which the Yellow River flows, and being an important hub along the Silk Road, Lanzhou’s tourism offerings are like a condensed version of Yellow River culture and Silk Road culture. The Yellow River is regarded as the “Mother River” that nurtured the Chinese nation, so visitors to Lanzhou must see the “Mother.” Additionally, Lanzhou, with its well-developed waterways, is home to the highest number of waterwheels in all of China.
