The job of a travel journalist allows for frequent international assignments, good food, and comfortable accommodations, but it often requires staying alone in a room. Facing an empty space can be stressful for those without courage—though I’ve never had such an experience myself, only feeling restless and unable to sleep well. However, my colleague Miss K revealed that among all the hotels she’s stayed in, her experience at the Kanchanaburi Bridge in Thailand was the most terrifying.

Many people know that during the construction of the Kanchanaburi Bridge in World War II, due to tight deadlines and insufficient technology, tens of thousands of prisoners of war and laborers lost their lives over three years. As a result, there are many eerie legends in the area that send chills down your spine.

Miss K said that when checking into a hotel near the Kanchanaburi Bridge, she was assigned a room at the end of the hallway that no one else wanted, as it was rumored to be haunted. Naturally, this led to unsettling associations. But since she was still new to the job and didn’t want to ask her seniors to switch rooms, she simply took the key card and braced herself to check in.

From the moment she entered the room, she felt something was off—perhaps the lighting was too dim, or the air conditioning was inexplicably cold. Trying not to think too much, she relaxed in the bath to unwind and hopefully sleep better. After a long day of travel, she managed to fall asleep without much trouble.

But strangely, a sudden gust of cold air blew up from under her feet, lifting the blanket, and she woke up abruptly. That wasn’t the worst part—a cold finger grabbed her foot. She immediately started cursing and chanting "Amitabha Buddha" in a panic, trying to drive away the otherworldly presence. She doesn’t know how long it lasted, but the entity seemed to have been scared off and stopped bothering her.
