The serene simplicity bathed in sunlight — The Hidden Dawn Spot of Xuhai, Pingtung

As 2015 approaches, those who wish to experience the tranquil and rustic beauty of the first light of dawn can head to one of Taiwan’s hidden dawn spots — the Xuhai Tribe in Mudan Township, Pingtung County, located at the southernmost tip of the country. Watching the sun rise over the sea from this dawn-welcoming “stunning hidden spot” is an experience worth having.

Xuhai Village in Mudan Township, Pingtung County, was formerly known as “Mudan Bay.” It is a small village nestled against the mountains and facing the sea, lying beside the blue Pacific Ocean. The area boasts beautiful beaches, lush green meadows, refined hot springs, and rich multicultural heritage. With its simple charm and indigenous warmth, visitors can explore the diverse and picturesque scenery of Xuhai Tribe during the cold winter season and create beautiful memories to welcome the new year.

The “Winter Love for Mudan Bay” Xuhai Hot Spring Festival series includes a flag-raising ceremony to welcome the first light of dawn, which will take place at 6:30 a.m. on New Year’s Day morning at the Xuhai Hot Spring Tourist Area. Through tribal blessings, visitors will be led to listen to beautiful indigenous sounds and feel the warm atmosphere of Xuhai while greeting the first warm rays of 2015. In addition to the dawn flag-raising ceremony, there are other dawn-viewing spots in Xuhai Tribe, such as the Xuhai Grassland and Mudan Bay, which are perfect for avoiding the crowds and enjoying the sunrise.

Pingtung Bus will operate a special “Dawn Welcoming Shuttle Bus” starting at 4:30 a.m. on January 1st (departing every 12 minutes until 5:00 a.m.), picking up passengers from Checheng and transporting them via Sichongxi and Shimen to Xuhai. The return trip will be at 10:00 a.m.
