On September 2nd, a group of adorable white sheep made their debut at Tainan’s Chihkan Tower. Invited from the UK, “Sheep Step Taiwan” was invited to embark on a historic sites tour in Tainan. Starting September 2nd, they officially settled in at Chihkan Tower to meet the public, and will continue to be exhibited at various historic landmarks in the future.

“Sheep Step Taiwan” consists of 60 uniquely designed white sheep. Invited by the Tainan City Government Cultural Affairs Bureau, they will tour major historic sites across Tainan to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the British trading company Dent & Co.’s establishment in Anping. The aim is to attract more visitors for photo opportunities with this fresh highlight.

Starting in September, the Tainan City Government Cultural Affairs Bureau launched an art installation program within historic sites. This contemporary art project kicked off with “Sheep Step Taiwan,” which officially settled in at Chihkan Tower on September 2nd to meet the public, and will continue to be exhibited at various historic landmarks in the future. Designed by Cai Kunlin, a Ph.D. candidate at Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK, the work draws inspiration from the playful Hokkien pronunciation “Sibuling-iang” (meaning joyful mood). It incorporates fairy-tale imagery and the biblical story of Jesus and the shepherds to create 60 uniquely designed white sheep. The works are full of childlike charm, with their adorable and healing appearance helping people forget their worries and bringing positive energy.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the British trading company Dent & Co.’s establishment in Anping. The Tainan City Government Cultural Affairs Bureau has recently combined four major historic site ticketed attractions (Chihkan Tower, Anping Fort, Anping Tree House, and Yide Jingcheng Fortress) along with the romantic docking area of the Deyang Warship Park to launch a “4+1” Historic Sites Pass coupon. Originally priced at 250 NTD, the ticket package is now available for just 150 NTD.
