Yonghe’s Hidden Gem Dumplings Go on Sale at 4:30 PM – Their Wrappers Are as Springy as Freshly Rolled

Compared to the rich and heavy dishes often found in restaurants, I prefer the unpretentious home-style cooking of small eateries. Tucked away in Liuhuo Market in Yonghe District, New Taipei City, “Yonghe Dong Family Dumplings” is the kind of humble eatery I’d head to for a simple dinner. The dumplings, freshly pan-fried, have wrappers as springy and fresh as if they were just rolled out. I usually order ten dumplings with a bowl of soup—delicious and deeply satisfying. Before leaving, I grab two packs of frozen dumplings to stock up for typhoon season.

The location of this dumpling shop might not be the easiest to find for non-locals. Basically, you go past the traditional Chinese medicine shop at No. 388 Dehe Road in Yonghe, walk through a small alley, and keep going straight—you’ll see the dumpling stall there. They don’t open for business until 4:30 in the afternoon.
