“Asahi Couple” is a newly opened Japanese-style ice shop in Tamsui that just finished its trial operation in August. This small ice shop is located right next to the Tamsui Hobe Fishing Port. Most visitors enjoy their ice treats at the outdoor bar, taking in the view of the blue sky meeting white clouds, the shimmering aquamarine sea, and the distant hills. A refreshing bite of ice paired with breathtaking scenery makes for the most delightful summer moment, and in the evening, you can even catch the famous Tamsui sunset.

The owner previously worked as a diving instructor in Okinawa, and the shop’s name “Asahi” (meaning “morning sun”) comes from the owner’s habit of starting work early each day. The fruit syrups drizzled on the shaved ice are boiled fresh in-house daily, free from artificial colors and flavors. The colorful yet refreshing shaved ice presents the natural hues of the fruits. There are five fixed flavors: pitaya pineapple milk, Tamsui Sunset, Okinawan brown sugar black sesame tofu, matcha azuki, and blueberry yogurt. Additionally, a surprise secret flavor is offered each day.
