Kaohsiung Launches “Twin-City Express Bus” — Direct to Tainan in Just 40 Minutes

The transportation bureaus of Kaohsiung City and Tainan City have collaborated to launch two express bus services between the two cities starting in February: the “Shaqimei Yuanshijie Express Line” and the “Kaohsiung-Tainan Twin-City Express Line.” Not only is the one-way fare capped at just NT$60, but travelers can reach the Chimei Museum from northern Kaohsiung in just 40 minutes.

The Kaohsiung City Transportation Bureau stated that previously, residents of northern Kaohsiung commuting or traveling to and from Tainan faced complex transfer options, resulting in travel times of over 90 minutes. As a result, the two new twin-city express bus routes have been introduced.

The “Shaqimei Yuanshijie Express Line” is a route rich in scenery and stories. It travels along Provincial Highway 28, where landscapes change dramatically—from fertile plains to badland terrain (the Tianliao Moon World), from flatlands to mountaintops—offering visitors an in-depth journey into the mountainous interior of Kaohsiung. This express line departs from the Qishan Transfer Station, connects to Provincial Highway 39A via Provincial Highway 28, and reaches the High-Speed Rail Tainan Station. On weekends and holidays, the route extends directly to the Chimei Museum.

The “Kaohsiung-Tainan Twin-City Express Line” departs from the Zuoying High-Speed Rail Station, travels via National Freeway No. 1, exits at Gangshan Interchange, and continues along Provincial Highway 1 directly to the Chimei Museum and Tainan Railway Station in Tainan City. The total travel time is approximately 40–50 minutes, making it the most convenient bus route for travel between Kaohsiung and Tainan.
