At approximately 10:56 a.m. on the 4th, TransAsia Airways Flight B22816 made an emergency landing in the Keelung River behind the Nangang Business Park. There were 58 people on board, including 5 crew members and 53 passengers. By 2 p.m., 13 people had unfortunately been confirmed dead. TransAsia Airways held a press conference at 3 p.m. to provide updates on the rescue efforts and stated that the aircraft involved was a newly purchased ATR72-600 model from last year, with an age of less than one year.

TransAsia Airways stated that the crashed flight was an ATR72-600 model, with an age of less than one year, and had undergone a regular inspection as recently as the 26th of last month. The airline has set up an emergency response center and will fully assist the families and the Civil Aviation Administration with related investigations and follow-up matters. The flight had two captains and one first officer. Captain Liao Jianzhong had 4,914 flight hours, while First Officer Liu Zizhong had a total of 6,922 flight hours. Observer Hong Bingzhong had accumulated 16,121 flight hours. In addition, there were two flight attendants, Huang Jingya and Ye Jiajing, on board.
