Experience Taiwan’s longest suspension bridge, the “Taiping Skywalk,” ahead of the crowd—look down and you’ll see a waterfall!

Situated in Meishan, Chiayi, the “Taiping Skywalk” is known as the country’s longest single-span scenic suspension bridge, with a total length of 281 meters and an altitude of around 1,000 meters. The mountain weather is highly changeable, and when enveloped in clouds and mist, it feels like being in a fairyland. The Alishan National Scenic Area Administration carried out lighting tests in early September, and officially launched its trial operation on the 23rd, giving visitors an early chance to experience Taiwan’s longest suspension bridge.

Standing on the Taiping Skywalk, on a clear day you can overlook the entire Chianan Plain and even gaze as far as the Taiwan Strait. The almost otherworldly scenery is incredibly soothing. Put on a safety helmet and actually walk across the skywalk—you’ll find it more stable than expected. The ends of the bridge are made of high-strength SM570 steel, the same seismic-resistant material used in Taipei 101, capable of withstanding earthquakes of up to magnitude 7, allowing you to safely enjoy the view before you. However, those with a fear of heights may still feel their legs go weak.

Halfway across, you can peer through gaps under the bridge to catch a glimpse of the Sanyuan Rainbow Waterfall. When water flow is strong, you can hear the gentle sound of flowing water. The construction is not yet fully completed, but in the future, visitors returning can choose a short 30-minute walking trail or spend about an hour taking a detour through the tea fields to admire the entire Taiping Skywalk from above. If you’re lucky, you might even spot eagles soaring overhead, immersing yourself in nature.

To maintain the quality of the visitor experience, the trail currently operates on a pre-sale ticket system, admitting just 130 people at a time, with about 15 sessions per day. In the future, there will also be professional guides stationed on the bridge to provide on-site interpretation, helping more people discover the beauty of Taiping in Chiayi.
