Narita Airport cancels entry security checks! No more last-minute scrambling before entering the airport

Starting March 30, Narita Airport has officially abolished its complicated entry security screening mechanism, allowing passengers to freely enter the airport premises and ending this regulation that had been in place since 1978.
Prior to the construction of Narita International Airport, local residents had launched opposition movements. As a result, six entry points—including the train station entrance and vehicle access points—had identity verification checkpoints. Now, to compete with Haneda Airport and accommodate the influx of visitors expected for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the security screenings have been lifted. However, 330 surveillance cameras and facial recognition systems will be installed at the airport, and dynamic detection dogs will also patrol the area to maintain ongoing safety.
