On a hot day, you want to head out to the suburbs for some greenery therapy but don’t want to leave the air-conditioned comfort—then you must visit Taichung’s new foreign cuisine restaurant, JAI House. Located in the bustling Yizhong commercial district, you’d never guess from its high-rise exterior that there’s a secret garden hidden inside.

Walking up to the second floor from the commercial area, you’ll be greeted by a red-brick exterior wall, making you feel like you’ve stumbled into a secret garden. In addition to the tasteful American-style decor and lush green plants that are soothing to the eye, there’s an even bigger surprise waiting: the spacious dining area can actually fit two “vintage cars.” A green extended truck is loaded with fresh fruits and vegetables, creating the vibe of a countryside farmer’s market abroad.

Vine-covered trellises, flowers and plants on the ground, and red-brick walls make dining here feel like a picnic in the forest. In addition to the green vintage car, there’s also a long dining table made from a white mini truck by the window, where they serve brunch toast platters, pasta, and risotto. No service charge is applied, making this secret garden inside the building the perfect spot for those who want to stay cool indoors.
