Located on the second floor of Junfu Haiyue Grand Hotel at the intersection of Chongqing North Road and Chang’an West Road, Yuzhenxuan is a Hong Kong-style dim sum spot I was quite satisfied with last year. Last month, I noticed they were offering an 15% discount for their anniversary celebration, which was very tempting. But I never found the time to revisit. So I seized the last day of the Qingming holiday to dine here with Meiji.

Since the offer ends at the end of April, if you don’t come soon, you might miss out. Apparently even Japanese magazines have introduced this place before. So savvy, XD

Last time I came, it wasn’t very busy because we had to reserve in advance, but this time at noon, it was full and we had to wait a bit. However, even if you’re just two people, you still get your own table here. It reminded Old K of a recent visit to Tin Hau where the seats were small, and we even had to share a table—just ordering five dim sum items didn’t fit. Here, even if you’re two people at one table, you can easily order ten items XD The atmosphere is much more comfortable, and the prices aren’t any higher either.

First, let’s try the complimentary side dish. It’s a cold appetizer to get your appetite going. The taste is pretty OK.

Char siu & roast pork combo (NT$400)
Last time I only ordered classic dim sum, but this time I wanted something different—so I went for the combo. As for what meats you can choose for the combo, you can ask the friendly service auntie.

Just look at how tender this roast duck is and you’ll know it should be tasty. The skin is very rich and has a slightly chewy texture, which is quite different from the typical crispy roast duck skin we usually have. The duck meat is super juicy, and the sauce drizzled on top is really flavorful. It feels like you could eat a whole bowl of plain rice just with the sauce alone XD Old K thinks this duck is pretty delicious.

The other half of the combo is a rather unique healthy longevity fruit dish. It's squid stuffed with a mysterious filling, topped with a mayo that has a slight wasabi kick.

Inside is shredded green papaya. The chewy squid pairs perfectly with the crisp, tangy green papaya, plus the mildly spicy-sweet mayo—it’s super refreshing and truly delicious and unique. This is definitely something the ladies will love.

XO Sauce Turnip Cake (NT$250)
I’ve always thought their turnip cake was pretty good, so this time I opted for the XO Sauce version. Their XO sauce is only mildly spicy, so even those who can't handle spice can order it with peace of mind. There are also other pan-fried turnip cakes, but the XO Sauce version seems to be first deep-fried then stir-fried, so the outer crust is slightly harder and crispier than the pan-fried kind, yet the inside remains soft and tender. The flavor of the shrimp adds a nice touch as well. However, it’s a bit pricier than the pan-fried ones. Old K thinks the pan-fried ones offer better value XD, but both are delicious.

Seafood Shrimp Dumplings (NT$130)
Because Meiji loves shrimp dumplings so much, we ordered them again—no dipping sauce needed, they’re delicious as is.

Yuzhen Fresh Shrimp Cheung Fun (NT$145)
Their cheung fun wrapper is a bit softer this time, but the sweet and savory sauce still makes it enjoyable. However, the Vietnamese-style shrimp cheung fun we had last time was particularly outstanding—I’d recommend that one more.

Pan-Fried Squid Dumplings (NT$105)
The outer layer of the wrapper is nice and crispy, like a potsticker, but the inside is quite substantial. Aside from the chewy squid, you can also taste a bit of a crisp texture—probably water chestnuts added in. It’s kind of like a potsticker filled with squid balls XD. It’s not bad, but a bit oily.

Time to pay the bill after eating our fill.
K’s Little Tips: Old K thinks this is a pretty delicious and well-made dim sum spot, and the prices aren’t too high. This time we ordered some pricier char siu and roast pork, which is why it went over a thousand [NT dollars]. If you just stick to regular dim sum, it can be much cheaper. Almost everything we ordered this time was good—the quality is pretty consistent. With the discount still valid until the end of April, hurry and enjoy it.
