Sliced roast pork, cheese, and pickles are placed inside French bread, then grilled until golden and the cheese is melted using a double-layer griddle oven. This is the ultra-popular Cuban sandwich from the movie "Chef." Want to try this flavor that’s different from an American sub? At the newly opened Nangang CTBC Good Food City, there’s a shop that specializes“Havana PaPa”in Cuban sandwiches — and they offer more than just the movie-style version, including variety cheese sandwiches, Havana toast sandwiches, and Cuban paninis.
Liao Zijun, the trainee store manager of “Havana PaPa,” says the Cuban sandwiches they sell taste just like the ones in the movie. The key elements are the long roll, roast pork, cheese, and pickles, with the most important filling being pork, bacon, and ham. The pork is a whole cut roasted with various spices for 6–8 hours, then drizzled with their homemade mustard sauce.. Liao Zijun says all their meat is freshly roasted every day. As for the bread, Havana PaPa uses “Northern European heritage non-GMO whole grain bread” imported from Lian Sha Green Baking Food Co., Ltd., which is known for being baked without additives and is highly popular.
Besides the Cuban sandwich (called “Cuban Hero” on their menu, 160 TWD), other menu items include the Cuban panini (160 TWD), thin beef & cheese long roll (160 TWD), spicy chicken leg long roll (160 TWD), vegetarian grilled long roll (160 TWD), variety cheese sandwich (130 TWD), Havana toast sandwich (150 TWD), toast burger (150 TWD), as well as salads, fries, and slushies.
