A Light Bus Trip in Tainan: Grandma’s Mural Village in Hucuoliao & the Totoro Bus Stop – All in One Go

A new attraction has been added to Grandma’s Mural Village in Hucuoliao, Shanhua District, Tainan City. The shepherd’s maze, initiated by Li Fan (a.k.a. “Li Fan the Shepherd”), is located within the shepherd’s maze area.Tainan City Transportation Bureau Director Chang Cheng-yuan especially recommends that travelers take the bus to get there, as the route also allows you to stop by the Totoro Bus Stop in Dajia, offering a chance to experience two uniquely different mural villages.

Grandma’s Mural Village in Hucuoliao, Shanhua District, was initiated by a granddaughter living in the city who wanted to paint the old walls of her grandmother’s home to keep her from moving to the urban area. The heartwarming bond between grandmother and granddaughter moved the entire village community, prompting residents to join in painting the exterior walls. They also set up a dedicated Facebook page called “Grandma’s Mural Wall,” attracting many visitors.

According to a visitor surnamed Wang, it had been almost a year since his last visit to Hucuoliao Mural Village. In addition to existing murals such as Totoro, Malayan tapir, robots, and the Chinese zodiac wall, the area has expanded with even more murals and several new directional signs. A mahjong wall made of actual mahjong tiles has also been completed. In the shepherd’s field next to the “Glorious Era Wall,” visitors can walk along a 2-meter-high maze path and see the towering tusks of a mammoth right before their eyes – a truly amazing sight.

1. At the bus transfer station in front of Shanhua Railway Station, take Bus Orange Line 2 Branch (toward Hucuoliao), get off at Yangming Elementary School Stop, and walk about 100 meters to reach the entrance of the Mural Village.
2. Take Bus Orange Line (main line) and get off in front of Shanhua Railway Station, then transfer to Bus Orange Line 2 Branch (toward Hucuoliao), get off at Yangming Elementary School Stop, and walk about 100 meters to reach the entrance of the Mural Village.
3. At Yangming Elementary School, take Bus Orange Line 2 Branch, get off at Shizilai Stop, and walk about 100 meters to reach the Dajia Totoro Bus Stop Mural Village.
