After a 14-year hiatus, Japanese wagyu beef is making its return to Taiwan. The first to arrive is Miyazaki beef, which has won the “All-Japan Wagyu Olympics” championship three years in a row. Following that, one of Japan’s legendary top three wagyu brands—Kobe beef—will also make its debut. Grand Mayfull International and Grand Mayfull Hotel have been certified by the Kobe Beef Marketing & Distribution Promotion Association, making Grand Mayfull Hotel the first designated Kobe beef restaurant in Taiwan. The hotel will also launch the “Legendary Kobe Beef Banquet,” with sales set to begin on October 12.
To be certified as Kobe beef, cattle must pass a series of strict “Kobe beef authentication” standards, covering lineage, feeding, fattening, slaughtering, and processing. Even the sales channels must be reviewed and certified by the Kobe Beef Marketing & Distribution Promotion Association, which then issues a certificate. As one of Japan’s top three wagyu brands and being imported from Japan, the price is naturally not cheap, with each kilogram costing over NT$10,000.
On the launch day, October 12, Grand Mayfull Hotel will also host a gold certification ceremony with the participation of Shiro Shima (Kobe City Council Member), Shinichi Tatsumi (Chairman of the Kobe Meat Industry Cooperative Association), Yoshioka Osamu (Managing Director of the Kobe Meat Industry Cooperative Association), and Grand Mayfull International & Grand Mayfull Hotel Chairman Li Guanting. A Kobe beef expert will also share the secrets to its deliciousness, showcasing the premium meat through various cooking methods such as teppanyaki and charcoal grilling.
