Recently, a netizen was walking through Osaka Umeda Station in Japan when they were suddenly confronted with an “unexpected sight”: over ten pillars covered in text with “pervert warnings.” The person was quite shocked and secretly wondered—was it an R-rated, adult-themed movie about to be released? Was it a loan shark coming to collect debts? Or perhaps a jilted mistress preparing to take revenge and “cause a huge scandal”?

Upon getting closer for a closer look, they realized it was actually a promotional advertisement for Kyoto Aquarium. Currently, the aquarium is temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it is expected to reopen in the summer. At that time, exhibitions or themed activities are likely to be launched immediately. In fact, if you look more carefully, the four large characters “Pervert Warning” are composed of many marine creatures, including dolphins, whales, jellyfish, manta rays, and garden eels, among others. The design is very creative.

After finding out the truth, it becomes clear that the “pervert” on the ad doesn’t refer to behavior or thoughts that seriously violate morality or norms, but rather to a stage in the growth process of certain organisms, characterized by sudden changes in their form or structure. Common examples that people are familiar with include butterflies that develop from caterpillars and frogs that develop from tadpoles. If you’re interested in learning more about the events at Kyoto Aquarium, you can check out their official website or follow their Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter accounts for the latest updates.
