The Central Epidemic Command Center announced on April 10 that there were 3 new domestic cases, bringing the total to 385, all of which were imported. One more death was reported, bringing the total to 6. Minister Chen Shih-chung also released an email proving that Taiwan had already warned about the risk of "human-to-human" transmission of COVID-19, urging the WHO to face the facts and not repeat its mistakes.

[Domestic Epidemic Situation]

Three new COVID-19 (Wuhan pneumonia) cases were reported domestically today, all imported. They are a man in his 60s (Case 383), a man in his 70s (Case 384), and a woman in her 20s (Case 385).

The Command Center stated that Cases 383 and 384 were both detected through airport testing. Case 383, who had been working in the U.S. long-term, developed stomach discomfort, loss of appetite, and felt feverish on March 31, and had sought medical treatment locally in the U.S. Case 384, who had been residing in the U.S. long-term, developed coughing with phlegm on April 3. Both entered Taiwan on April 10. Due to voluntarily reporting symptoms, they were tested at the airport and confirmed positive today.

Case 385, who was studying in France, entered Taiwan on April 3 and underwent home quarantine. On April 4, she developed a runny nose and nasal congestion, and on April 7, she had a fever. She sought medical attention arranged by health authorities that day and was tested, resulting in a confirmed diagnosis today.

Taiwan had already reported to the WHO on December 31, 2019, that this pneumonia had human-to-human transmission. This contradicts the claim by WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus that Taiwan did not issue any warnings. Minister Chen Shih-chung specifically released the content of the email to prove that Taiwan did indeed raise the alert and had been actively contributing to global health efforts. In mid-January, Taiwan also sent two experts to Wuhan for an investigation. With its experience dealing with SARS, Taiwan has never taken the situation lightly and hopes the WHO can face the facts and address the issue.

[Epidemic Statistics]

As of April 9, there were 1,576 new reports related to COVID-19 in Taiwan, with a cumulative total of 45,436 cases (including 40,393 cases ruled out). Among these, 385 have been confirmed (Cases 383 to 385 reported today), comprising 331 imported cases and 54 domestic cases. Of the confirmed cases, 6 have died, 99 have been released from quarantine, and the rest remain hospitalized in isolation. Regarding the 367 people from Hubei who returned to Taiwan on chartered flights on March 29 and 30, they continue to undergo close health monitoring at centralized quarantine facilities.

The Command Center pointed out that globally, there are 1,640,016 confirmed cases across 184 countries/regions. The U.S. has the highest number of cases at 496,535, followed by Spain with 157,022, Italy with 147,577, Germany with 113,525, and France with 90,676. There have been 101,578 deaths worldwide, with Italy reporting 18,849, the U.S. 18,586, Spain 15,843, France 13,197, and the U.K. 8,958.
