The exhibition content has been comprehensively upgraded to create a high-level thought leadership event...

From food to beauty, from mother and baby products to education, the content formats of online live streaming have expanded from general entertainment to more specialized fields, offering increasingly diverse content. Among these vertical categories, knowledge-based live broadcasts have become a particularly popular area. Starting April 7, Douyin officially launched the "DOU Knows Plan" — the "See the World on Douyin" series of science live streams, taking viewers over three consecutive days to "fly through the sky, dive into the sea, and venture into uninhabited areas" via Douyin Live.

China has 9.6 million square kilometers of land territory, giving birth to countless "world extremes." We marvel at the majesty of the Himalayas and the grandeur of the Great Wall, yet few know that within its 4.7 million square kilometers of water bodies lie countless mysteries and wonders. It boasts the world’s most complex groundwater systems, the deepest marine blue holes, and the richest aquatic ecosystems. Five thousand years of historical sedimentation have created incredible underwater ancient cities, and interactions with 1.4 billion Chinese people have given rise to a unique water culture, fostering numerous fishing engineering projects that lead the world. The Chinese people's exploration of rivers, lakes, and seas has never ceased, but there has been a lack of systematic visual works to showcase them to the public.

Zhou Fang is the director of "Underwater China," having filmed the world’s first documentary showcasing China from an underwater perspective. She knows the underwater world better than anyone. Before 2017, Zhou Fang traveled around the world tracking sharks, hoping to use film to reveal the true relationship between sharks and humans. In 2017, she stopped her global shark-tracking journey and returned to China to start documenting the country’s underwater wonders.

At 8 PM on April 9, Zhou Fang will unveil China’s underwater marvels during the "See the World on Douyin" live series. She’ll share her life-risking filming experiences and interesting facts about China’s aquatic ecosystems. Through this parallel underwater world, we’ll uncover forgotten aspects of Chinese culture and experience a different side of China.

Starting February 2017, Zhou Fang and five photographers spent two years and seven months, driven by their passion for China’s underwater realm, visiting 24 Chinese cities. Their journey took them as far north as Changdao at the junction of the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea, as far south as the South China Sea, and as far east as Orchid Island in Taiwan, capturing mysterious underwater relics across China. Prior to this, no one had ever tackled a documentary on such a theme as underwater China. With her lens, Zhou Fang brought hidden underwater caves, ancient cities, shipwrecks, coral reefs, marine ecosystems, and fisheries into the public eye, introducing China’s — and the world’s — underwater realm and creating China’s own version of "Blue Planet."

"See the World on Douyin" is the latest initiative under the "DOU Knows Plan" to promote science communication through live streaming. The "DOU Knows Plan" is a mass science communication campaign launched jointly in 2019 by the ByteDance Platform Responsibility Research Center, Douyin, and authoritative domestic institutions. Thanks to the "DOU Knows Plan," as of February 29, 2020, there were 90,000 knowledge creators with over 10,000 followers who had published more than 25.86 million knowledge videos, collectively receiving over 2.4 trillion views. Douyin has gradually formed a multi-dimensional ecosystem of knowledge-based content.

Today’s live streaming content spans multiple domains including public welfare, art, humanities, education, and nature. Through live broadcasts, Douyin connects more people, events, and things, bringing a bigger world into the view of ordinary individuals. At 8 PM on April 9, Zhou Fang will present a panoramic view of China’s underwater wonders. Follow "See the World on Douyin" to explore another China you’ve never seen before. Search “underwater world” on Douyin to unlock Zhou Fang and her parallel underwater realm.
